We are a family friendly smokehouse located in the heart of Kettering, serving a range of smoked meats, all smoked on site, alongside amazing burgers and steaks with an array of wines, lager, cocktails, custom made milkshakes and sundaes, waffles & candy floss.
We also house the largest amount of self-serve frozen yoghurt machines under one roof in the UK and believe we are the first in the world to combine a restaurant with the large range of self-serve dessert options that we offer.
Our dream was to bring something new and exciting to Kettering, supporting the local community and enticing people back into the town and put place offers something for everyone – from young to old – with much more exciting new ideas still to come.
Little Leaves received our Ofsted approval in September 2018 with lots of preparation and hard work.
The childcare setting itself is run as a childminders by myself Katie and my assistant Charlie. Like other childminders I welcome the children into the comfort of my home meaning they feel comfortable and like an extension to the family however unlike other childminders I run the setting from a purpose built cabin too surrounded by outdoor learning opportunities for the children to include a sun bubble and mud kitchen bursting with authentic items for them to be curious about and be encouraged to use their imagination. We do get outdoors no matter what the weather as everything we choose to do each day is led by the child. Like everyone who starts a new business it has become my 4th baby after having 3 children of my own. Every thing I do I do for my 3 children and my Little Leaves and it shows. I soon filled the vacancies I had available in less than a week originally in September so I had to extend by taking on an assistant. Also within two weeks of announcing her start date we had reached full capacity again. Before our first trading year is over we are hoping to find the right candidate to become my second assistant so we can please some of those on our huge waiting list.
The Bean Hive has been open for 8 months in which time we believe we have bought some much needed colour and style to Kettering High Street. With so many major national retailers leaving the town in the last few years we identified the need for our quirky independent mini department store.. The shop is home to fifteen traders who collectively run the shop. We sell a huge array of gifts, cards, american candy, art, fashion, toys, babywear and vinyls. A visit to The Bean Hive as well as offering a massive choice of products from international, national and local suppliers is a fun experience. We place great importance on the appearance of the shop from its bright pink exterior to the designs that run throughout the shop. We were influenced by the shops we love in London and have attempted to bring a similar style to Kettering. We offer old fashioned customer service and take the time to talk to our customers many of whom have become our friends. We have worked very hard to built up a strong social media presence, essential to succeed in today’s tough retail market. Last month we extended the shop and opened a new shop within the shop called Upstairs at Sweary Marys which is already proving rather popular. In the near future we will be opening our online store which we expect to be as popular as the shop is. The first eight months have been really amazing, bucking the local trend by having really exceptional footfall and consequently outstanding sales. We are fortunate to have a very strong and committed team of traders with fabulous specialist skills between us from social marketing, visual merchandising, building, finance, signwriting, window displays and customer service. Our customers often comment that they are surprised to find a shop like ours in Kettering and that it is good to find a shop that has time to build relationships with customers. We have many events planned both for the shop and for the wider town community over the next few months so watch this space.
